Middle School Vikings pushes win streak to six straight

Avery defensive back Cole Singleton upends a running back from East Yancey in middle school football action earlier this season at MacDonald Stadium. The Avery Jr. Vikings continued its stellar unbeaten season last Thursday, Oct. 3, with a victory in Mountain City, Tenn., over Johnson County. Avery won the high-scoring affair by the final score of 54-40. Avery quarterback Will Stanford scored five rushing touchdowns in the win to go with two touchdown passes for the Big Red. The win improved the Jr. Vikings’ overall record to an undefeated 6-0 for the season. Avery concluded its regular season with a matchup against Mitchell County in the annual Brad King Bowl on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at MacDonald Stadium. Proceeds from the annual game will benefit Roman Bailey and Gracie Ingram, a pair of fifth-grade students in Avery County Schools.
