For more than three decades, Tommy Burleson has led a week of basketball camp for area youths, and additional sports camps are available throughout the summer sponsored through the Avery Parks and Recreation Department.

NEWLAND — Avery County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring three remaining camps for youths during the summer season.

Cheer Camp returns to Avery Parks and Recreation’s Rock Gym from Monday, July 8, through Saturday, July 13. Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to noon daily. Registration for the camp is $50. For more information, call the Avery Parks and Recreation Department at (828) 733-8266.

The third week of July means the sound of bouncing basketballs and the sight of jump shots will fill the air during the annual Tommy Burleson Basketball Camp, which will take place from Monday to Friday, July 15 to 19, at the Avery Parks and Recreation Rock Gym. Registration for the camp is $50. For more information, call the Avery Parks and Recreation Department at (828) 733-8266.

Wrapping up the summer camp season will be Baseball Camp, taking place from Monday to Thursday, July 22 to 25, at the Avery Parks and Recreation Rock Gym Field. Registration for the camp is $45. For more details, call the Avery Parks and Recreation Department at (828) 733-8266.
