Steven Howard “Scooter” Johnson, age 41, of Elk Park passed away unexpectedly due to injuries sustained in a car accident on Monday, June 10, 2019. A native of Avery County, he was a son of Ray and Linda Penny Johnson of Elk Park. He was preceded in death by his Wife: Johnnie Wingfield who passed away in 2015; paternal Grandparents: Howard and Almedia Johnson and maternal Grandparents: Paul and Ruby Norman.
He was a member of Belview Baptist Church. Scooter was a drywall worker for many years and also a cabinet maker for 10 years. He loved golfing, hiking, playing his guitar and working with electronics.
Surviving in addition to his parents is his Brother: Greg Johnson and wife, Carol, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; Sister: Stephanie Barnett and husband, Chris, of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; special Friend: Kirstan Fox of Newland; Nieces and Nephews: Nicholas Johnson, Haley Johnson and Mercedes Barnett; and special Cousins: Lucille Markland and Jack and Jackie Norman, all of Elk Park. Several extended family members and many, many friends also survive.
The family received friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, June 17, at Belview Baptist Church. Funeral services followed at 3 p.m., with Pastor Michael Ricker and Rev. Gary Greene officiating. Immediately following the services, burial was held in the Banner Cemetery, located in Elk Park. Pallbearers will be Russell and Jake Norman, Brian and Chucky Johnson, Jamie Johnson, Joey Street and Jesse Lomeli. Honorary pallbearers were his many friends.
