Vehicle Fire

Newland volunteer firefighters respond to the vehicle fire on Cranberry Street shortly after noon on Friday.

NEWLAND — Just after noon on Nov. 13, a flatbed pickup truck heading south on Cranberry St. in Newland caught fire between the License Plate Agency and the Mayland Community College building. According to Newland Police Chief Jason Brown, the fire was caused by a faulty electrical component. According to Brown, the vehicle had an extremely high-mileage total.

The Newland Volunteer Fire Department was on the scene within a matter of minutes, shortly followed by Newland Police Dept. The fire was extinguished in less than three minutes. Both the driver and passenger were able to exit the vehicle uninjured.
