Friday snowfall

On Friday, Jan. 8, a snowstorm swept through the High Country, piling up at least four inches of snow in towns including Boone, Blowing Rock and West Jefferson while ski resorts and areas in higher elevations received between six to eight inches of snow. Avery County Schools held a snow day on Jan. 8 and switched to a remote learning day on Monday, Jan. 11.
