SUGAR MOUNTAIN — On the afternoon of Feb. 12, a vehicle backing over an embankment in Sugar Mountain wounded its five occupants.

Teddy Thomas with Banner Elk Fire and Rescue said two occupants were entrapped and had to be extricated by first responders. Two were flown via medivac to Johnson City Medical Center, while the other three were transported by medics.

Banner Elk Fire and Rescue, Linville Volunteer Fire Department, Sugar Mountain Police, Linville Central Rescue Squad and Avery County EMS all responded to the incident.
