Students of Lees McRae recently met with representatives JoAnn Hedstrom, volunteer specialist, and Brian Womack, disaster program manager of the American Red Cross, with the intent of organizing a local Red Cross Club. They will join a number of college clubs that have been established throughout the country.
These clubs take on service projects that directly help the local communities. Students recently completed the required orientation and are currently chartering the club. Projects will include disaster relief work and safety education. Founding members all agree that they are fortunate to live and study in the High Country and want to give back to the community.
Members include: Britney Carswell, Adelai da Degado, Ivanna Knox, Laken Owen, Hannah Hoots, Meredith Tillman and Maggie Hodges. Hoots was elected president, Tillman vice president and Hodges as secretary. College nurse Carl Griewisch is the club advisor.
