Buckeye Rec Center renamed after Pfohl family

Buckeye Rec Center on Beech Mountain now has a new name, as dignitaries and well-wishers gathered at the facility last week for a ceremony unveiling the renaming of the center to the Fred and Margie Pfohl Buckeye Recreation Center. The center was renamed in honor of Fred Pfohl and his late wife, Margie, both longtime residents and contributors to the town, past recipients of the Order of the Longleaf Pine, as well as proprietors for more than four decades of Fred’s General Mercantile on the mountain. Pictured left is Fred Pfohl addressing supporters in attendance during the event while, pictured right, Pfohl receives a plaque of recognition from Beech Mountain Town Manager Bob Pudney.
