This is a list of the winning groups from the 8th Annual Beech Mountain Community Club Golf Tournament, which was held at the Sugar Mountain Golf Course on July 27.
First place went to the team of Barry Crawford, Dee Dee Rominger, Gary Rominger, and Jacob Willis. Second place went to the team of Tommy Greene, Chris Greene, Curtis Jones, and Doug Matheson. Third place went to the team of Steven Pennell, Rick Pennell, Brad Estep, and Kenny Hicks. Cindy Riley and Randy Childress were the winners of the longest drive contest. Arville Ward, Larry Carpenter, Danny Boone, Gary Rominger, and Barry Crawford were winners of the closest to the pin contest. Congratulations to all of the winners.

The Beech Mountain Buckeye Recreation Center will be continuing their popular guided hikes for August. On Thursday, Aug. 15, they will be hiking the Lower Pond Creek Trail. This hike will begin at the public parking lot, across from the town hall, and will depart promptly at 10 a.m. Make sure to bring water, and wear appropriate footwear. The Beech Mountain Community Club will be having its monthly business meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15.
The Avery County Shrine Club will have its monthly business meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, at Sissy’s Country House Restaurant in Elk Park.
The Beech Mountain Community Center will be hosting its nest fish fry at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. We will be serving both fish and chicken with all the fixings, including fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and a dessert and drink. A fish plate is only $10, and a chicken plate is only $8. Come out and enjoy a great meal at a reasonable price.
Beech Valley Baptist Church will be having a movie night for the youth in our community every fourth Sunday night, starting at 4 p.m. Food will be served after the movie.
