Avery County trees arrive in Washington

White House Groundskeeper Dale Haney posing with local tree grower Larry Smith and his partner Beth Gibbons at the White House on Oct. 19. Smith, along with other local tree growers Lynn Smith and Dale Benfield, are providing trees for the ‘America Celebrates’ display at the site of the National Christmas Tree in Washington D.C. The growers also provided trees for the display last year after the previous grower who had been providing Fraser firs for a number of years dropped out. Smith intends to continue providing trees in the future. Last year one of his trees was featured in the White House’s Blue Room after he won the National Christmas Tree Association’s contest.
