Chamber Golf Champions

LINVILLE — A total of 108 excited golf participants gathered for the Avery Chamber Golf Classic on Monday, May 13, at Linville Golf Club because of the club’s continued generosity of hosting charity tournaments the month of May. Golfers were able to play the beautiful Donald Ross course and enjoy on-course activities such as Split the Pot, Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and a “Hole in One Contest.”

Also, 70 businesses and friends participated in the Hole Sponsor program and advertised their signs throughout the course.

The annual event benefits the Avery County Chamber of Commerce and special gratitude to everyone that made this event possible. On behalf of the Chamber, thank you to corporate sponsors SkyLine/SkyBest, Carolina West Wireless and The Lodges of Eagles Nest, as well as sponsors Chick-fil-A of Boone, Stonewalls Restaurant, Friendship Honda of Boone and BB&T Bank.

Congratulations to the following winners: Split the Pot: Paul Teachout; Closest to the Pin: Bobby Whitlatch and Mark Mitchell; Longest Drive (Men): Scott Boyles and Longest Drive (Women): Margaret Thiele.

First-place finishing team (Gross) with a score of 64 was the team of Bill Ross, Paul Teachout, Richard Hilton and Eric Cole. Second place (Gross) with a score of 64 was the foursome of Brandon Vannoy, Edward Hinson, Mark Ricks and Tony Golembesky. Finishing third (Gross) with a team score of 67 was the team of Keith Johnson, Rip Rollins, Rob Brown and Wesley Milton.

First place (Net) winners with a score of 42 was the team of Chris Pate, John Warren, Matt Blackburn and Scott Fogleman. Finishing in second place (Net) with a score of 52 was the foursome of Bobby Whitlatch, Michael McLendon, Chris Watson and Tom Palombo. Placing third (Net) with a score of 52 was the group of Austin McGuire, Mark Hollingsworth, Scott Boyles and Trent Wall.
