BEECH MOUNTAIN — Beech Mountain continued its tradition of hog roasting for the 48th year in a row this past Saturday, July 6. The Roasting of the Hog, a trademark of Beech Mountain in the summertime, has taken place on the Fourth of July weekend each year since 1971.

The event is designed to bring people together for a night of barbecue and fireworks in celebration of American Independence. This year’s roast was a collaborative effort organized by the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce, Beech Mountain Tourism Development Authority, Town of Beech Mountain, and Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.

The Roasting of the Hog serves primarily as a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce. Beech Mountain Resort also raises funds during this event by selling beer, wine and spirits. The event was free and open to the public, but those interested in a slow-roasted barbecue meal were required to purchase a ticket before the event at a cost of $15, or at the door for $20.

Those not interested in the meal were not required to purchase a ticket to enjoy the happenings of the day, which consisted of vendors of all kinds, face painters, children’s fun and games, music and dancing. The evening ended with an impressive fireworks spectacular.
