DEPUTY DIRECTOR
AVERY COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS

An employee in this position serves as deputy to the director of Elections and is responsible for answering the telephone, taking and receiving messages and greeting the public. Responsibilities include processing voter registration cards, assisting with the preparation for elections and providing general support to the Director and the elections office. Work requires that the employee exercise sound judgment in working with the public and providing them with the proper information. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Elections and is evaluated through conferences, observation and review of work generated.

This position requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data; and includes exercising discretion in determining data classifications, and in referencing such analysis to established standards. Must become familiar and use the Election and Related Laws and Rules of North Carolina published by the North Carolina State Board of Elections and general statues found within.

Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of weight (10-50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard.
