Workshop explains blueprint for a profitable mountain farm February 3
Are you looking to diversify into new operations on your small family farm? Trying to decide which ventures hold the most promise? Extension agents, here in the High Country, get this question frequently and have handpicked what they feel are some options with the potential for great success.Attendees will have the option to attend sessions in any of the four tracks that agents have arranged, including livestock, fruits, vegetables and forest products. The event will take place at the main campus of Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3, with lunch served for attendees. A registration fee will be charged to cover the cost of the meal and meeting supplies. Also, included will be a resource notebook for attendees to take home with supplemental information.
Participants can expect to hear from farmers and industry leaders in many different fields, explaining new or different opportunities for local farmers to increase their farms’ profits. According to agents, many people are looking into putting idle land into production or expanding into new ventures to increase or recover lost income. With the ever-changing economic landscape, getting up-to-date and in-depth knowledge increases ones chance for success.
