Winters commissioned as second lieutenant in U.S. Army
Daniel Keith Winters, a native of Avery County and son of Don and Lena Winters of Roan Mountain, Tenn., was commissioned as second lieutenant in the U.S. Army on Dec. 16, 2011. Winters served as the battalion XO and held the rank of cadet major in Buccaneer Battalion at ETSU’s Army ROTC. Winters graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in criminal justice and is commissioned as a distinguished military graduate into the Chaplain Candidate Program. Although his first duty station is undefined, he has moved to Fort Worth, Texas, to complete a master of divinity degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Upon graduation, Winters plans to become a chaplain in the U.S. Army.
